On 17th and 18th November, the five Cohort 1 members - a diverse mix of data-driven climate not-for-profits - that have graduated from our Europe accelerator programme gathered in London to wrap up the nine month programme. Read about some of the highlights as we wrapped-up the programme.

The six climate not-for-profits in Subak UK’s Cohort One have just completed the first 3 months of the Accelerator. From May 27th to 29th, we gathered with our UK cohort in our Waterloo office for 3 days of learning, celebrating success, and reflecting on the past 3 months.

Subak’s community seeks to accelerate climate action in manifold ways, always underpinned by data. We’ve brought together three representatives from our community to illuminate what Earth Day 2022 and ‘investing in our planet’ means to them, and how to stay positive and empowered in the face of gloomy climate news.

As a global issue, climate change demands global policy solutions. New research by one of our Cohort One members, the think tank Autonomy, shows how a carbon tax and dividend system, whether at global or national scales, could not only play a major role in driving the emissions reductions necessary to mitigate climate change – but also drastically reduce global poverty levels.

Jeremy Fletcher was brought in by Ember on a short term contract to lead this effort, having had decades of experience as a technical lead and data solutions architect. The following blog is his account and deep-dive into how he tackled the data difficulties at Ember, the tools he introduced, and ultimately the results he and the team at Ember achieved.
