Helen Jackson

Helen is an environmental economist interested in understanding physical climate risks to human welfare within their geographical and socioeconomic context. She recently set up not-for-profit ClimateNode to explore the use of natural language processing and other data science techniques to research this. She has previously worked with Vivid Economics, the Climate Bonds Initiative and the Economist Intelligence Unit.

Helen’s Fellowship project uses natural language processing of local newspaper reports to compile a street-level dataset of English urban flash flood events in recent years, and presents this on a series of annotated maps.
