What To Expect From the Application and Interview Process

In our ‘Inside the Subak Accelerator (Europe)’ series, we unpack the application process and the accelerator experience, including some sample questions you might be asked at the interview, so you have all the information you need before applying to the Subak Accelerator.

What to expect from the application process

It should take you between 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete your application. We don’t ask for any financial information or testimonials at this stage - we just want to hear your ideas! Before you submit your final application, it could be worth running your submission past someone who knows your organisation well, perhaps a mentor or advisor. After you fill out your application you won’t be able to make any additional changes. We do our best to review all applications within 1 week of applications closing and we will notify all applicants about the state of their application.

What to expect during the interview

Successful applicants will be invited to attend a 1-hour online interview.

The purpose of the interview is to help us get to know you, and understand more about the problem that you’re solving, the impact that it would like to make, and why you can do this better than anyone else. We would love to hear what you’ve accomplished in the past and the details of the great people on your team.

We want you to highlight your strengths while being upfront about your weaknesses. The Accelerator is a learning programme, so the more we understand about the areas you want to develop the better we can judge whether it is the right programme for you. And we don't expect you to know everything!

How to prepare for the interview process

We want to know where you see your organisation going in the next few years, and why you believe you can scale your impact. We ask that a founder or member of the senior leadership team takes part. It is a great chance for us to meet any additional co-founders and key members of the team.

Here are some questions that you can expect:

  • What’s the problem that you’re trying to solve and why is this important?

  • What’s the impact that you’re trying to make on the climate crisis?

  • How do you measure your impact?

  • What have you learned since you started?

  • What’s your 5-year vision for the organisation?

  • What are you going to accomplish in the next 3 months of the accelerator and during the 12 months that follow?

  • What would be your ideal outcome from joining the Subak Accelerator?

  • What are you most worried about right now?

  • Are you working on this full-time?

  • What are your fundraising / revenue generation goals for the next year?

The Interview Committee

The interview committee consists of Joanna, our Accelerator Lead, and other members of the Subak team. We will focus questions on the four pillars of business, tech, data and impact, to help us understand where your organisation is on its development journey, and the ways in which you might benefit from our curriculum.

We know the application and interview process can feel long, and we truly appreciate all the effort you put in, your hard work and patience.

We’re looking forward to receiving your application! For more information, read our FAQs.
