Explore, experiment, innovate
Our 3 month programme helps founders learn how to run an effective and impactful climate not-for-profit. Our unique four pillar curriculum focuses on the business fundamentals start-ups need to scale. You will access tuition from best-in-class mentors and advisors, work alongside Subak’s in-house subject matter experts, and become part of a global network of data-led climate innovators.

  • A core focus on climate change mitigation

    • We are looking for organisations with the ambition to create significant & measurable impact.

    A scalable approach

    • We want to see the potential for your model or operations to scale across new geographies or sectors.

    A data-centred theory of change

    • We are looking for organisations which generate data assets as part of core output of their work, and aim to use that data to influence change in public or commercial behaviour and/or policy.

    An ethos of collaboration

    • We believe that organisations fighting climate change should work together to create a coherent base of data, tools, and practice that allow us all to fight more effectively.

    To be eligible for the Accelerator, you must:

    • Be legally incorporated and headquartered in Europe or APAC

    • Operate as a not-for-profit

    • Have 2 or more staff members

    • Be able to contribute to Subak's Data Catalogue

    • Have at least 3 month runway at the start of Accelerate

Top-tier network

We'll also pair you with a carefully selected mentor, who will support your growth and development during the Accelerator with regular 1-to-1 check-ins.

Case Studies

  • Instrat, Europe Cohort 1

    Instrat played a crucial role on the ground in Poland in highlighting windfall profits of power utilities to shape public opinion and issuing recommendations on how to counteract the energy crisis and compensate for the skyrocketing energy bills.

    After several months of neglecting the phenomenon, the government and energy regulator have admitted state-owned power utilities achieve “windfall and excessive profits” and announced the introduction of a redistribution mechanism.

  • TransitionZero, Europe Cohort 0

    TransitionZero released an open data tool called the Coal to Clean Carbon Price Index (C3PI), which shows the carbon price needed to incentivise switching from coal to gas vs coal to clean energy in 25 countries. The purpose of C3PI was to counter the ‘gas as a bridge fuel’ narrative, which we did through media outreach, a live webinar and direct engagement.

    They also prepared two company profiles on Japanese firms J-Power and JFE Steel (private), which were used in an investor engagement campaign led by ACCR and funded by ClientEarth. The engagement resulted in JFE considering a change to its policy on blast furnaces and J-Power being taken to court by two investors.

  • Ember, Europe Cohort 0

    A series of reports and insights from Ember have helped shape opinions and inform policy debates relating to the gas crisis. Ember showed that the projected gas demand for 2030 could cost €250 billion more than the European Commission originally estimated.

    Ember also showed that the EU generated a record 12% of its electricity from solar from May to August 2022, helping avoid €29bn in gas imports. In addition to extensive media coverage in Bloomberg, Der Spiegel, Financial Times, South China Morning Post and India’s Economic Times, Ember analysts have been discussing findings directly with European Commission representatives.
