Lifting the lid on data critical for the planet

In the complex world of climate change, Subak has quietly nabbed the zeitgeist and funded non-for-profits over one and a half million dollars’ worth of projects.

The core idea is to gather and openly share critical data on the climate and biosphere, so governments, industries, and communities can act more quickly in favour of the planet.

For example, Ember, a Subak climate accelerator member, recently published how Australian coal mines are leaking up to 10 times more methane than reported

One of our Melbourne-based Australian fellows, Kathryn Davidson, is an expert in the field of climate and resilient governance. Her project will impact directly on policy required to deliver #netzerocarbon by 2050. Insights will be disseminated into policy forums on the ways climate actors could better link and learn from each other to inform new norms for ambitious climate action and help explore new policy pathways.

Another Australian member, that has graduated from the Accelerate to Grow phase is Open Corridor. This Perth-based NFP provides ecological and social data to support communities, businesses, and governments build resilience and sustainability. Says founder Josh Hopkins: "We believe this is a beginning of a new era, where open data and intelligent systems, empower local communities. We are excited to partner with Subak Australia to accelerate our shared mission of using data for good; towards a future where all Australians are equipped with inclusive, science-based tools to guide our transition to a healthy, just, and sustainable world."
